88 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Layer Cake Chardonnay pours a pale, green-tinged golden yellow, with tantalizing aromas of Meyer lemon, Kaffir lime blossom, green apple, pear, pineapple, guava, honeydew melon, almonds, lemon zest, and wet stones.

In the mouth, Layer Cake is fresh and lively with flavors of Kaffir lime, guava, pineapple, and a touch of flint minerality, followed by a light mouth-coating, creamy texture of whipped lemon curd and subtle oak. The finish is crisp and clean with lingering notes of lemon meringue pie and honeydew melon. Pair with seafood such as crab, shrimp, oysters, or salmon, margherita flatbread pizza, pasta with butter or cream sauce, and chicken alfredo. Try Layer Cake Chardonnay with this delectable Roasted Trout with Lemon & Walnut-Browned Butter!

“I am not sure how he does it, but this is an absolutely gorgeous wine for the money.” – 88 Points, The Wine Advocate

Layer Cake Ancient Vines Primitivo *aka Zinfandel

*DNA analysis shows Primitivo is genetically identical to Zinfandel.* Carole Meredith of UC Davis, the most important genetic academic in the world of wine, has confirmed Primitivo & Zinfandel have identical DNA. Primitivo and Zinfandel, however, have not been officially defined as synonymous by the TTB. We presented Dr. Meredith’s findings with the Layer Cake Primitivo label and received the first-ever Certificate of Label Approval with Primitivo and Zinfandel used as synonyms on the label, yet the TTB has still not posted them as interchangeable in the regulations.

Layer Cake Primitivo is an inky, ruby-purple in the glass with a nose of jammy black cherry, plum, blackberry fruit, truffles, espresso, tar, white pepper and spice.

Warm and rich in the mouth, rustic flavors of roasted herbs, truffles, pepper, scorched earth and spice are layered with black cherry jam, ripe blackberries, black currant, and espresso. Medium-to-full in body, the texture is dense and creamy. The finish is clean, dry and earthy, with notes of mocha spice.
